Dr Chong Chee Keong is one of Singapore’s breast surgeons with more than 20 years’ experience in the management of breast cancer.

Dr Chong participated in various international cancer conferences to keep himself up-to-date with conditions of the breast. He also took time off work to do a stint in Japan to learn about minimally invasive breast cancer surgery and various reconstruction techniques. Dr Chong also travelled to places including US and Vietnam to upgrade his skills on minimally invasive surgeries.

He believes and understands that the breast is an important part of a woman's image, and hence advocates conservation of the breast without compromising the safety of the patient. Additionally, Dr Chong has experience in various breast remodelling techniques to help keep the deformities from the surgeries to the minimum.

A Mammotome device is a vacuum assisted breast biopsy device to extract a sample of cells or tissues for examination. The breast surgeon will inject a local anaesthetic, and under ultrasound or mammographic guidance, insert a special biopsy needle into your breast and obtain the breast biopsy samples.

A mastectomy is usually carried out to treat breast cancer, and the term itself refers to the surgical removal of one or both breasts, partially, or completely.
